SHALE OIL.
AUSTRALIAN EXPLOITATION PLANS. COMMONWEALTH & STATE CO-OPERATION. (Received Friday, 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 4. It is expected that an agreement will shortly be reached between the Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments for exploitation of the shale oil deposits at Newnes, New South Wales, as the main difficulty relating to the marketing of the product has been overcome. Both Governments being opposed to the participation of governments in private enterprise, it is suggested that the Governments concerned should advance £300,000! to any bona fide company willing to work the Newnes shale deposits. This aspect will receive consideration shortly.
