STREET ACCIDENT.
FATALITY IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, May 3. Fatal head injuries were received by A. R. Ponder, a well known commercial traveller, an elderly widower of Rugby Street, Christchurch, this afternoon when he was struck by a motor truck near the safety zone at the corner of Queen and Victoria Street East. A vehicle owned by Turners and Growers Limited was proceeding up Queen Street and Ponder was knocked down, striking’his head on the kerb of the safety zone. The injured man was rendered unconscious and was taken to hospital in the ambulance. He died at 7 p.m.—(P.A.)
