LONDON DISPLAYS.

NEW ZEALAND A. & P. SHOW LAMBS. The ifirst arrivals of New Zealand's ppring lambs in the United Kingdom provide a special opportunity for advertising the Dominion's quality meat, and in this connection, the Show Lamb exhibits at a number of the New Zealand A. & P. Shows are utilised as the main attractions. The London Manager of the Meat Producers' Board, reporting on this - season's experiences, demonstrates that very effective publicity was given through this agency. The 87 lambs and 13 porker pigs which were exhibits at the Manawatu A. & P. Show came to hand, states the London Manager of the Board, in excellent condition and were displayed on the stall of Messrs D. Messent & Sons, who are large Smithfield distributors. The lambs were all Down Cross, well finished, and the dressing and colour were all that could be desired. Mr. D. C. Messent, who judged the display, found that in view of the generally excellent quality, it was difficult to place the first three pens. 1 ‘ The splendid condition of these lambs," he added, “inspired very flattering comments, and it is no exaggeration to say that seldom has the equal of this line of lambs been seen on Smithfield.'-' Two lots of very fine lambs were received from the Hawke's Bay Show, one consignment being displayed by Messrs H. S. Fitter & Sons, and the other by Messrs Sheed Thomson & Co. Both these exhibits arrived in good order and were of a high standard. Gisborne show lambs were displayed on the Smithfield stall of Messrs E. G. Mears and were described as really good butchers'dambs and in every way suitable for the requirements of the trade. The whole consignment of 42 was sold to the well known Army and Navy Stores, which reproduced a photograph of the display on the front page of its “Fortnightly Food List." This gives quotations of all varieties of foods stocked in the immense store, and a pleasing point for New Zealand meat producers is that the only imported lamb and mutton quoted is from the Dominion. A special feature advertised in the list was half-guinea-week food boxes, containing an assortment of meats, fruit, vegetables and dairy produce. The No. 1 assortment was headed by a shoulder of New Zealand lamb. Wairarapa show lambs, displayed by Messrs Fitter & Sons, and judged by them, were described as just the right size, full of meat and not too fat—in fact, ideal butchers' meat. Waikato show lambs were handled at Smithfield by Messrs Weddel & Company, who went to special trouble to make a display, erecting scaffolding in front of their spacious stall, and utilising the attractive advertising novelties distributed to the trade by the Meat Board's London Office. A photograph of this very fine display was 1 published in the “Meat Trades Journaj," and part of the consignment eventually found its way to the high West End store of Messrs Barker | & Company, where it appeared as a special feature in their provision department. The Meat Producers' Board co-op<erates in the display of most of these parcels of lambs from A. & P. Shows, and where desired, takes charge of the consignment, arranging for shipping, handling, and displaying in London, and a jccunt saling to the New Zealand owners.
