ENJOYABLE CONCERT.

MASTERTON MUNICIPAL BAND. DRAWING O-F RAFFLE. There , was a large and very appreciative audience at a concert given in the Municipal Hall last evening by the Municipal; Band: and: assisting artists. The band acquitted, itself in a very praiseworthy mannar and its work showed evidence of careful preparation for the New Zealand Contest at Wellington.. The band leaves on Saturday to attend the contest. The- baud’s raffle was also drawn, under the supervision of Sergeant T. H. Dyer: The marblfes were drawn by Patty Turner and the results were as follow.: First prize;. P. Chapman, Church Street; Masterton.;: second prize, M. Brayshay, 11 Jean, Street, Masterton; third: prize, Mr. H. C. Henderson, Devon Street, Masterton. The conductor of the-Band, Mrt B. J. Young, said that the winning ticket had been sold by a small girl, Una Davies, who had disposed of six books of tickets. He also thanked Sergeant Askew for the very valuable work he had done in orgaaimhg the effort to raise money for the Contest Fund, which now stood at about £lOO.

The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, who was present, wished the band every possible success at the contest and urged the members to be loyal to their conductor, their town and themselves and “to play the game until the last note was sounded. ’ ’

Mr. Young thanked Mr. Jordan for his kind thought in coming along and assured him that bandsmen were working hard and were loyal to a man. If the band did not win or gain a place at the contest, he added, it would not be for the want of trying.

1 Items rendered by the band included: March, “Old Chums;” one step, ‘•Move Along;” march, “M.M.8.” Instrumental and vocal items by Messrs Rangi and Chapman and Patty Turner were greatly appreciated. LIST OF DONORS. COLLECTION BY LADIES’ COMMITTEE. Distributing 156 envelopes, the Ladies’ Committee of the Municipal Band collected donations totalling £32‘ 14/2 to the contest fund.
