“She must have sunk like a stone,” radioed the British steamer Dartford, after colliding in a fog in the Channel with the Greek steamer Meandros, of 4,309 tons, of which no trace was discernible. Only one survivor was picked up out of a crew of twenty or thirty. The collision occurred 131 miles south-east of St. Catherines Lighthouse. The Dartford expects to reach Portland in the morning, with her bows damaged.
