THE RUGBY GAME.
MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT. SEIASON’S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED The annual report of the Masterton Football Club for the past season states:—Financial.—It is with pleasure that we are again able to report a substantial credit balance, the surplus on the year’s working being over £l4. To the supporters of the Club whose donations totalled £23 16s odd, the club extends its heartiest thanks 'for their most most practical expression of goodwill. “Accident Insurance and Membership Fees: When it is remembered that the club, owing to economic circumstances, decided to forgo all membership fees last season, and collect from players only the amount of accident insurance due to the Rugby Union, the above financial result is all the more meritorious.
u P&Bt activities: Due to the deflection of a majority of the previous season’s senior players to another club at the beginning of last year, it became necessary to elevate practically the whole junior team up to the highest section, in order to maintain the club’s senior grading. Although much the lighter team in the competition, they acquitted themselevs most creditably, running some of the leaders to close margins and by training keenly they maintained a splendid teams spirit. In the time available it became impossible to replace the junior side, but teams were entered in 3rd. and 4th. grades, and for a portion of the season also in the 6th. section.
“Representatives: Messrs N. Trass, P. Clark, A. McCalmont and C. Pickerring were selected during the season to represent Wairarapa in the B Grade senior representatives.
“Training: The Club again hired the Memorial Park gymnasium and grounds and we would impress upon players in all grades the necessity of taking the fullest advantage of the facilities for training and fitting themselves for the 'various competitions, as it is little use paying for electric light and grounds if they are not fully availed of. “Appreciation: Besides our financial supporters we are particularly indebted to the club captain and senior coach, Mr. M. Fly, for his continued organising efforts, etc. on behalf of the club. Also to Messrs L. Jago, coach of the third grade team, B. Saunders fourth grade coach, and the captains of all teams —Messrs N. Trass (senior), C. Newland (3rd.) and L. Harrap (4th.)- —also to all other office bearers, delegates, committee men, etc., and the Press for publication and support always so freely given. “Advnsory Board: We wish to extend our thanks to Mr. R. Spackman, who has represented this club on the above committee since its inception, and also congratulate the board upon the expeditious manner in which it attended to the several matters submitted by this club. Prospects: At preliminary meetings of your committee with delegates and leading players it was disclosed that the senior team will be strengthened by the acquisition of several new players of proved ability. The organisation of a good junior team is also now assured, while 3rd. and 4th. grades will again be available.” OP AHI CLUB. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING.
