SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. MARTINBOROUGH (“The Age” Special.) St. Andrew’s eighth annual flower show was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon and evening, when there was a very satisfactory attendance. The show was opened by Archdeacon Hansell, who, with Mrs. Hansell and Miss Hansell were visitors to Martinborough for the day. The recent gales were responsible for fewer exhibits than usual but the blooms shown were of a high standard, as was the fruit, vegetables, home produce, etc. The Perpetual Challenge Cup for most points at the show was won by Mrs. John Martin. This cup carries with it a silver teaspoon. Mrs. F. Reynolds was runner-up. Mr. G. Pain’s Perpetual Challenge Silver Vase for decorated basket was won by Miss M. C. Martin. This trophy also carries with it a teaspoon. The winners of other trophies were: Challenge Cup, for most points in Class 11., Mrs. Reynolds 1, Mrs. J. Martin 2; Challenge Cup, for most points in Class IV., Mrs. Webb 1, Miss Martin 2; Mrs. McAllum’s trophy for most points in Class 111. (Martinborough exhibitor), Mrs. Gillies 1, Mr. Skill 2; Mr. Poulter’s trophy, for apple pie, Mrs. Killip. In the children’s section, Ola Nicol was the winner of the points prize with three firsts and one second; other winners being, K. Hayman, R. Kershaw, P. Howatt, E. Loveridge, Betty Peacock, Ayliffe Harding, Betty Grant, P. Cotter, Iris Amos. The junior points’ prize and trophy were won by Ruby Lumley, other winners being Veda Hore, R. Grant and Winnie Mclvor.

Mrs. Broderick, Tutiriumuri, returned on Saturday from a long visit to Timaru.

Mrs. McKay and Mrs. Moffett who have been the gests of Mrs. G. M. Moffett, Feilding, returned home on Saturday. Mrs. Thirkell returned home this week from some weeks in Wellington. Miss McDonald, of the staff of the High School, had the misfortune to sprain her ankle very badly' on Thursday and is a patient in Tiri Hospital. Miss Brentnall and Miss G. Denny have been visiting the Marlborough Sounds on the Monowai excursion. Misses E. Campbell, E. McDonald and M. Campbell are staying at Whangaimoana Beach. Mr. Lewin, who has been ill for some weeks, is much improved in health. Mrs. Murdoch McLeod and Miss C. McLeod have been spending a lew days with Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm McLeod. Constable Sleeth has resumed duty after a holiday in Australia. Mrs. Griffiths, Senr., has been staying in Wellington. Miss Halliday, who has been staying at “Mangapari,” returned to Welling ton early in the week. Mrs. Neil Ronaldson and family, King Country, are visiting Mrs. Ronaldson's mother, Mrs. Sharpe. Miss Jean Arkle has returned from a holiday spent with friends in Marton. Mr. Cotterill’s monoeoupe was flying from the local aerodrome during the week-end. MAURICEVILLE. (“The Age” Special.) Members of the Mauriceville Rifle Club fired their sixth trophy competition on the local range on Saturdayunder very fair conditions. A steady southerly wind increased towards the end of the match. Only six riflemen competed, the scores being (500 and 600 yards, handicap and total): —R A Cameron, 43, 44, 6, 93; A. E. Clarke’, 43, 42, 7, 92; D. Cameron, 40, 39, 9, 88E. H. Dagg, 35, 40, 6, 81; T. Bennett’ 39, 33, 6, 78; R. Dagg, 39, 33, 4, 76. R. A. Cameron and A. E. Clarke exceeded the handicap limit A team representing the tennis club played a tournament at the week-end at laueru and defeated that team by 13 matches to 3. J
