Following police investigations into safe blowing at the Wellington Girls' College and Saint Paul's Pro-Cathedral o. young man was arrested yesterday. It is stated that the man had explosives in his possession. He is being held on a charge of breaking and entering a Wellington warehouse.—(P.A.) Two professional bouts were staged at Invercargill last night by the 'Otago Boxing Association. A ten-round bout between C. Jones (Oamaru) and C. Buckley (Dunedin) was won on points by Jones after a poor contest. In a fifteen-round middleweight contest, T. Croft (Greyinouth) knocked out Bert Davis (Dunedin) in the seventh round. The Harvest Festival services of the Masterton Methodist Church were concluded .last night when an enjoyable Harvest -social wZs held. There was a large attendance and an excellent programme of items was contributed by Messrs V. Greer, B. Venner, Mrs T. Corkill and Miss E. Bate. The accompanists were Mesdames H. M. Morton, Barnes and Miss Jones. Mr. T. R. Mannell conducted a Dutch auctiqH sale of the produce, brisk business being done. James Norman Richards, aged 24, a joiner, was sentenced at Auckland to six months’ hard labour, to be followed by two years' reformative treatment, for converting motor cars. Finger-prints on a glass panel of an abandoned car were found to tally with those of Richatds, taken when he was previously in prison. Evidence was given by Constable Collinge, of Palmerston North, that after hearing a broadcast description of a stolen ear he accosted two men in a car. One of them was Richards. While he was questioning Richards he was struck on the head from behind. Another witness said that no complaints of a stolen car had been received since Richards was arrested.—(P.A.) Cottage to let.
