SINGLE MEN’S CAMPS.

BLAIRLOGIE REMAINING OPEN. OTHERS CLOSING DOWN FOR HOLIDAYS. About fifty men from the Masterton County Council's unemployment camps have returned to their homes for the Christmas holidays. They will start work again in the camps on January 9. Forty men are now resident in Blairlogie Camp, the council having decided, at the request of the men, to keep one camp open during the holidays, and close the other three. Caretakers have been placed in charge of these camps for the holiday period. The council has made special arrangements for catering at Blairlogie during the festive season.

The Masterton County Clerk (Mr. J. C. D. Macktey) stated yesterday that the men resident at Blairlogie, through their foreman, Mr. E. L. Anderson, had asked him to publicly thank the members of the Women’s National Welfare League for their thoughtful and most generons action 4h providing them with two large Christmas cakes, which were delivered on Thursday by Mrs Hugh Morrison. “Mrs Anderson assured me,’’ said Mr. Mackley, “that the men are most grateful for the consideration extended to them and they reciprocate the season’s greetings received from the members of the deague.’’ The secretary of the Women’s National Welfare League desires to thank the following who assisted with the making of Christmas cakes for the single men’s camps: Mrs Downing, for making and icing cakes; Mesdames Newson and Physick, for baking cakes; W.F.C.A., Ltd., for boxes for packing cakes.
