PERSONAL.

Mr. A. Fieldhouse, of tho teaching staff of the Mt. Cook School, Wellington, will spend the vacation in Masterton.

Mr. H. W. Slater, of the Wairarapa High School staff, who has accepted <i position on the staff of the Southland Boys’ High School, left last week for Invercargill.

Speaking at a Christmas entertainment at the Methodist Home, the Rev. E. O. Blamires said he very much regretted it was the last of these functions at which he would preside, as he was leaving early next year for Fteildipg. He thanked all who had so loyally worked for the Home, and especially those who were closely connected with its operations. He would always nemember his happy associations with the Christmas functions at the Home.

For some years, Misses Ivy, Connie and Elsie Donald have given free tuition in music to the children of the Masterton Methodist Children’s Home, ■a generous act which has been very much appreciated by the management committee and by the controlling Methodist body in New Zealand. Reference was made to the generosity of the Misses Donald on Friday night and they each received a presentation. Miss M. M. Mead, who has been submatron at the Methodist Children’s Home at Masterton for some years, and who is leaving shortly to reside in England, was made a presentation on Friday night by the Wellington Methodist Board. The Rev. J. Cocker and Mr. J. Handyside referred in eulogistic terms to the service Miss Mead had given the Home and to the regret that was felt at her severing her connection with the staff.

At the Methodist Home gathering on Friday night, the Rev. E. O. Blamires paid a high tribute to the late Mr. 8. J. Smith, who had been chairman, of •the Home Management Committee for some years. They were now beginning to realise what a vast amount of work Mr. Smith had accomplished for the Home, he said, and his deeds would always stand as u monument to one who had so unselfishly given of his beet in the interests of the children.
