Mr. C. Wiseley (Tinui) is relieving at the Eketahuna District High School

Mr. E. J. Cumming, Commissioner of Taxation, is to retire on superannuation at the end of August. Mr. Cumming, who has had thirty years of service, was born in Melbourne of New Zealand parents in I'B7B. He came to New Zealand at an early age, and was educated at the Dunedin Normal and Technical Schools. Joining the Land end Income Tax Department as a cadet in 1897, he was later transferred to Christchurch. Ho passed through all grades of assessing and inspecting work, and in 1917 was appointed to the position of chief inspector. In 1925 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Taxes, and in June, 1928, he became Commissioner, succeeding Mr. A. E. Fowler.
