READING; BY W.E.A. CIRCLE.

Merry and pleasing entertainment fias provided in the Savage Club Rooms last evening when Oliver Goldsmith’s comedy, “She Stoops to Conquer,” was read by members of the W.E.A. Reading Circle. There was a good attendance and the members of the cast interpreted their parts with a commendable understanding and made thC" most of the rich humour with which the comedy abounds. Prior to the reading, Mr. H. C. T, Robinson gave an interesting sketch of Goldsmith’s life and works. Reference was made to the poet’s student days, to the wandering life that followed and to Goldsmith’s death at the early age of 46 years. Mr. Robinson also touched upon the better-known of Dr. Goldsmith’s works and spoke of his association with Dr. Johnson and other well-known writers of his time. The cast was as follows: Mr. Marlow, Mr. Kennedy; Sir Charles Marlow, Mr. Mulvey; Mr. Hardcastle, Mr. Robinson; Mrs. Hardcastle, Mrs. Michael; Miss Hardcastle, Miss O’Donnel; Miss Neville, Miss Aplin; landlord, Mr. Rockel; Diggory, Mr. Rockel; Tony Lumpkin, Mr. Engstrom; Hastings, Mr. G. Bate; maid, Miss Wellington; servant, Mr. Bruce Drummond.
