GERMAN AIRMEN.
BERTRAM AND COMPANION FOUND.
LONG SEARCH IN NORTH-WEST AUSTRALIA.
RESCUE LAUNCH DESPATCHED.
(Received Monday, 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 4. A wireless message from the Drysdale Mission, north-west Australia, states that the missing German airmen, Bertram and Klausemann, who landed in a Junkers seaplane and made for the bush on May 15, have been found, alive by Perth aviators.
Bertram and Klausemann, who had been missing since May 15, were found on June 22, six miles west of Cape Bernier, by Drysdale natives preceding Constable Marshall’s police party. Marshal made contact with them on the 29th. A launch left Wyndham today and is expected to return with the airmen on Wednesday. The men were reported to be well, but weak. It is understood to-day that at one period they were temporarily deranged owing to the hardships. A BRIEF VOYAGE. HELP FROM FRIENDLY NATIVES. (Received Monday, 7.35 p.m.) PERTH, July 3. The aviators could just walk when they were discovered. Bertram, particularly, was in a bad way. They had a piece of half-cooked kangaroo in a towel. The spot Where they were discovered was about twelve miles from the abandoned seaplane. As anticipated, the seaplane’s float, on which the men left to search for assistance, did not carry them far. It was cast up on the shore in a damaged condition some distance from where the men were found. Friendly natives provided them with nourishment, pending the arrival of a party from the Mission on June 22.
