ATETMPTS ON TRAINS.

FIVE WITHIN THREE DAYS IN N.S.W. POLICE KEEP SPECIAL WATCH. SYDNEY, June 20. Two more deliberate attempts have been made to wreck Newcastle to Taree trains near Wingham, making three within five days in that district. A special police watch has been kept, and a ganger passed over the spot where the attempt was made half an hour before the train was due. In that brief time a sleeper, a balk of wood, and stones were placed on the line fifteen’ft'et from a bridge over a gully. The locomotive hit them with terrific force and thrust them aside, but kept to the rails. The engine later was found to be damaged. The train wrecker, having failed in the first attempt, replaced the obstructions, but these were discovered before another train was due.
