POLICE SET HEAVY TASK. CALCUTTA, May 16. Further riotous scenes have occurred in Bombay. Hindu and Moslem mobs looted shops and stores and set fire to dwellings, mosques and temples, causing thousands of pounds damage, despite the presence of strong forces of police, who dispersed the crowds on six occasions with rifle Are. A police order has banned the public carrying weapons for a month. The Hindu and Moslem leaders are endeavouring to restore peace. Elaborate police precautions, including trenches with barbed wire and armed pickets, frustrated a Congress attempt to raid the Government salt depot at Wadala, Bombay.
