PING PONG.
MAURICEVILLE v. KOPUARANGA. SATURDAY’S MATCH. Some keen games of ping pong were witnessed at the Kopuaranga Hall on 'Saturday night, when a match was played between a combined team from the Mauriceville East and West and the Kopuaranga clubs. Altogether there were over fifty players present, besides a considerable number of onlookers. The match resulted in a win for Kopuarailga by 36 games to 17. The various sections resulted as follow:— Combined doubles, 6 all; ladies’ doubles, Mauriceville 2, Kopuaranga 4; men ’s doubles, Mauriceville 3, -Kopuaranga 5; ladies’ singles, Mauriceville 1, Kopuaranga 11; men’s singles, Mauriceville 5, Kopuaranga 10. A return match will probably be held in about three weeks’ time, while a visit from the Masterton Winter Sports Club is expected on June 27. Supper was provided by the ladies of the Kopuaranga Club, and dancing was indulged in until midnight. MASTEBTON CLUB. VISIT OF WELLINGTON TEAM. There was a record attendance at the Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium on Saturday night, when the Masterton Winter Sports Club continued its series of ping pong matches. A team of six players from the Government Printing Office visited Masterton and succeeded in defeating the local players, the visitors winning 30 games to 6 in the singles and 6 to 3in the doubles. The Wellington players have invited the Masterton Club to pay a return visit. A Yankee tournament was also held, W. Johansen and Miss H. Winter beating A. Purdie and Miss B. Bright in the (final.
