APIA BEDECKED.
ARRIVAL OF GENERAL HART. OFFICIAL RECEPTION. NEW ADMINISTRATOR ATTENDS SAMOAN WELCOME. APIA, May 1. At 9 o’clock this morning, favoured by Ideal weather conditions, the new Administrator, BrigadierGeneral H. E. Hart, and party landed on the flag-bedecked wharf to a salute of 15 guns. He was officially welcomed by the DeputyAdministrator, Mr. Turnbull, and present on the wharf were the Chief Judge, Mr. Luxford, the Secretary of Native Affairs, Mr. McBride, and other official heads. The elected member, Mr. Meredith, was also present, as were the native members, Malietoa and Mataafa, and a full body of Faipule and constabulary. An armed guard of honour and a band were present under Inspector Braisby. The Administrator afterwards wont to Vailima, and on the way passed through two lines of 11l 11l and Malifa school children, each child waving a small Union Jack, and the street being decked with streamers, flags and greenery. An arch of welcome bearing the word “Afio Mai” presented a charming picture. The whole proceedings went without a hitch. This afternoon the Administrator attends a Samoan welcome function at Mulinuu.
