AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
PROPOSAL TO SEND GROSE TO AUSTRALIA. MISS EVELYN HOYLE’S RECORD. WELLINGTON, November 3. There is a possibility that F. Grose, the Christchurch cyclist, will be sent to Australia to compete in the championship meeting to be held, it is understood, in Sydney. Speaking at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association this evening, Mr. E. Guy suggested that the Canterbury Centre should he approached, asking for its views, while a letter could also be sent to the Cyclists’ Union suggesting that perhaps it might be able to secure an invitation for Grose to compete in Australia. The meeting unanimously adopted this suggestion. A record given official recognition was that of Miss Evelyn Hoyle, who ran a 50 yards ladies’ race at Waipukuran sports on November 29 last in 6 1-10 seconds.
The following reinstatements were granted: A. J. Hansen (Marton), W J Hosie (Manaia), B. E. Somerville (Wellington), H. W. Insall (InvercarC* Thompson (Waimate).—
