KEEN FINISHES AT ANNUAL MEETING. IMATEAGIRL WINS COUNTY CUP. A RECORD DIVIDEND. The annual meeting of the Carterton. Racing Club, which was held on the Clareville Racecourse on Saturday, attracted a fairly good attendance of the public, considering the rather threatening weather conditions. Although the day was dull and overcast, the rain held off and the afternoon was quite a pleasant one. The sensation of the day was the record dividend for gallops in New Zealand, paid on the winner of the first event, Ephialtes, for which horse there was only one ticket on the machine, held by a well-known resident of Carterton. The dividend ran into five centuries. The totalisator handled £12,7'68 for the day, as compared with £16,031 last year, a decrease of £3263. Some stirring (finishes were seen in several events. Playground managed to beat Miss Hastings in the Carrington Highweight in a fairly close encounter, while in the cup a neck and head separated the placed horses, the event being won by Mr. J. J. Corry’s Imateagirl, Dr. H. A. H. Gilmer’s Ducllona being second and Mr. P. A. Findlay’s Marjoram third. The finish of the next event, the Carterton Hack, had many people in doubt, Lady Rene ’s number being hoisted first, with those of Projection and Hunting Call next in order. Heads only separated the placed horses in this race. The Bunny Memorial Handicap provided a keen duel between Coon Song and Staghunter, the former just winning by a nose. The favourite in the Taratahi Hack, Arrowzone, suffered defeat by a nose in another thrilling finish, viuny bein'g just too good on reaching the post. At the conclusion of the Bunny Memorial, the winner, Coon Song, was decorated with the blue riband.
