ROAD CYCLING.

MASTERTON CLUB EVENT. T. OAKLEY IN FORM. The Masterton Amateur Athletic Club held the final road cycle race of the season on Saturday, when a race was held from the Public Hospital to Bideford and back, a distance of 24 miles. These weekly races have served an excellent purpose- in that they have awakened interest in cycling and have prepared riders for the coming track season. The following is the result of Saturday’s race: W. Dorset, 1; T. Oakley, 2; T. McCord, 3. Oakley secured fastest time.

A boys’ race was held in conjunction with the above event and resulted as follows:—Rutherford I, White 2, Harman 3. Harman made fastest time. The Club will hold its first weekly evening meeting of the season at the Memorial Park on Wednesday next at 6 p.m., when a varied programme of events will be decided. Cyclist and runners are requested to note that no training will be allowed at the Park Oval until further notice. The track at the Memorial Park, however, has been newly laid out and is in first-class order. GOOD TIMES. WELLINGTON-PALMERSTON EVENT. WELLINGTON, November 2. Good times were registered by competitors in the Palmerston North— Wellington road cycle race, conducted by the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on Saturday. The race was won by A. D. Arthurs, a young Wellington rider, who turned into the Basin Reserve and rode his concluding lap to finish in 5 hours 41 minutes after ho had originally set out. W. G. Russell, another Wellington rider, who was off the same mark (60min) as Arthurs, crossed the line some four minutes later and was runner-up. Fastest time and the New Zealand 100-mile road championship was won by F. Grose (Christchurch). The following are the results:—A. A. Arthurs (Wellington), (60min) shr 41min, 1; W. G l .
