RIGHT TO SECEDE.

ISSUE AT THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. MR. FORBES ASKS PERTINENT QUESTION. PARTNERS IN THE EMPIRE. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 26. ‘ ‘I trust the demand for a declaration of the right to secession or whatever it is to be will not be pressed or made too prominent an issue at the Imperial Conference,” said the Hon. G. W. Forbes. “It may be said that the very fact that we are partners in the Empire implies a right to leave the partnership under certain conditions, but why talk about it? No Dominion wants to secede or is likely to want to do so. “If a business firm goes on discussing a dissolution of partnership instead of getting on with its business, such talk hardly helps it or commends public confidence. We are here on the most important business of bringing the Empire into closer relations and improving feeling between different parts. Let us get on which that business instead of talking about secession.” TRADING METHODS. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 26. The “Daily Herald’s” Imperial Conference correspondent, possibly foreshadowing the attitude of the Labour Government, says the Imperial Conference is likely to give a quietus to Empire free trade. There is room for improvement in trading methods within the Empire, for an enormous increase in marketing efficiency, for closer association of business interests, and the more flexible and efficient financing of inter-imperial trade.
