APOLOGY WANTED.

DROUGHT IN U.S.A.

SERIOUS CONDITIONS REPORTED. MOUNTING DEATH ROLL. (Received Wednesday, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 5. In connection with the drought-en-dangered areas, President Hoover said it had not been determined what action would be taken, but the administration is apparently much worried over the situation, reports of which become more depressing hourly. The weather forecasts continue to be most gloomy, stating: “We apparently are caught in a pocket.” Low water is widely reported and the fire hazard is increasing. Pennsylvania to-day appeared to be “burning up.” Fires are raging in other States and the heat continues to touch high points. The death roll is gaining.
