MINE IDLE.

PROTEST OVEB RUNNING OF TRAIN. TROUBLE Oil WEST COAST. GREYMOUTH, August 5. The Liverpool mine was idle to-day. The Railways Department was the object of a protest strike. “All the men returned home from Bewanui,” stated Mr. I. A. James (superintendent of the State Mines), “as a protest against the Railway Department not providing a train for the wet time men yesterday before about 4.20 p.m. Under ordinary circumstances the train for wet time men leaves Bewanui about 3 pan. Yesterday the i train left Rewanui for Dunollie about 2.30 p.m. and the men claim that this train should have been delayed instead of keeping the men waiting until the train went to Dunollie and back to Rewanui.’’ Approximately 250 men are affected by tho stoppage, but it is expected that they will resume work to-morrow.—(P.
