MOTOR SMASH.

COLLISION IN PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON N., August 4. A collision occurred early this afternoon between a service car and another motor vehicle at the intersection of Rangitikei Street and the Square. Miss Nora Nottingham, of Christchurch, a passenger in the service ear, was removed to hospital suffering from shock and concussion. The other passengers were slightly injured.—(P.A.) STRUCK AT CROSSING. VETERINARY SURGEON INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH. August 4. James Stafford, a veterinary surgeon living in Springston, suffered injuries to his head when his car was struck by a Christchurch bound express train at Dunsandel at 4.30 this -A evening. The car was passing over a level crossing when the train struck it, carrying it twenty yards. Mr. Stafford, then unconscious, received medical attention on the spot and was brought to Christchurch in the guard’s van. He recovered consciousness and was able to walk to an ambulance. He was admitted to hospital.—(P.A.) TWO WOMEN INJURED. WANGANUI, August 4. A motor collided with the Castlecliff Railway Company’s train at a crossing this morning. The. car was .carried 70 feet by the engine. The driver of the car, W. J. Bilberd, escaped injury, but Miss Edna Crease and Miss Gladys Jones, both passengers, were injured. The former suffered a broken ann and collarbone, and the lastnamed bodily injuries. Both ladies Were admitted to hospital.—(P.A.)
