PRIMARY EDUCATION.
MEETING OF CARTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. ADDITIONAL CLASS ROOM. (The “Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee was held last night, Mr. C. E. Jones, chairman, presiding. The Wellington Education Board advised that Miss G. M. Thornton, of the Napier Central School, had been appointed assistant mistress on the school staff. ! The headmaster reported the roll number to be: Secondary department, 36; average, 33; primary, 369; averages, 350 and 323. During the month the Wellington Winter Show was visited, free admittance being given to school children. A vote of thanks was passed to all those who had assisted to make the shop day such a success and also to all who donated gifts. ' It was resolved to hold a school dance on September 10. With a view to urging the erection of additional class-room accommodation at the Central Infants’ School, to take all the primary department children from the old school building and leaving the brick school for the secondary department, a public meeting of parents to discuss the procedure is to be arranged early in September. The Rev. R. J. Liddell was appointed visitor for the month.
Accounts amounting to £l2 12s 2d were passed. •
