HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT.
IN AID OF GYMNASIUM FUND. Preparations are well in hand for the High School concert to be presented to-morrow and Thursday nights. Apart from, the intrinsic entertainment offered, it is interesting to see what one of our secondary schools can produce. This is the eighth annual concert, and those who have patronised those of past years have been appreciative of the pupils’ efforts. The girls’ singing class, under Miss O. R. Sutherland, and the boys’, under Mr. J. Bird, have been putting in much solid practice. A modern account of the Battle of Hastings presents that old event in a new dress. A ballet of over twenty girls, trained by Miss Sellar, will be a spectacular item. Pyramids by a squad of boys, solo items and items by the orchestra complete a varied first half . The second half will be occupied by a farce in. one act by the well-known writer, Arnold Bennett. “The Stepmother’* is Cora Prout, a popular novelist and a widow, aged thirty; her .stepson, Adrian Prout, aged 20; Thomas Gardner, a doctor, aged 3'5; and Christine Feversham, Mrs. Prout’s secretary, aged 20. The parts are taken by Alice Golder, Norman Ninnes, Heugh Drummond and Jean Fellingham respectively. The proceeds are in aid of the school gymnasium fund.
