LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram., dated March 8, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—Moderate demand at auction this week at prices 1/- to 1/6 below previous sale rates. 627 packages offered, 382 sold. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Pine, 40/- per cwt; fair to good, 86/- to 3'B/-; dark to dull, 33/to 34/-. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 37/- to 42/-; fair to good, 34/- to 36/6; dark to dull, 32/- to 33/-; line, 37/-. Mixed: Fair to good, 33/6 to 36/-; dark to dull, 32/- to 33/-. Gut, etc., 30/- to 32/*.'

Hemp.—Manila easier, with moderate business at the decline. “J” grade March/May shipment sold at £2O 10/-. Sisal market quiet and easier. Fair avetage quality No. 1 for Mareh/April shipment sold at £33 10/- and good marks offered at £34 10/-. No buyers at present. No. 2 value of good marks at £3'3 10/- and fair average quality £BB. New Zealand: More offering but buyers holding back. March/May shipment position as last week. No firsthand sales reported. Apples.—Demand slow and prices inclined to be easier. Californian Newton, 14/-; Oregan Newton (very little offering at present) 16/-; American Stayman’s Winesap, 9/- to 11/-.

Wool.—Bradford market weak. Present quotations are: 64's warp, 2/4 per lb, average 2/3; 56’s, 1/8; 50'?, prepared, 1/s}; 40's prepared, 1/3.
