To-day is a day of mourning throughout France for the flood victims. Flags are at half-mast, members of the Government have cancelled their public engagements, social ceremonies are postponed, and all broadcasting stations silent. It is estimated that the damage will reach a sum equivalent to £12,000,000. Despite the magnitude of the disaster, it is expected that the National Fund and Government grants will be sufficient to repair the damage. Between Montauban and Moissac many people are still marooned on the housetops. PREMIER’S APPEAL. HELP FOR THE SUFFERERS. (Received Monday; 7.5 p.m.) PARBS, March 10. M. Tardieu, at - Toulouse, told the .Press that the state of things in the flood area resembled that in the devastated regions after the war, and emphasised that th? remedy must be similar. Personal 'sufferings must be aided with hard cash, the peasants housed and the viqe industry helped by the Government.
