TEMPERANCE WORK.
MEETING OF MASTERTON WXJ.T.U. OBSERVANCE OF MAORI DAY. The Masterton Branch of the W.C.T.U. held an “at home” meeting at the residence of Mrs Murray Jackson, Cole Street, on Tuesday afternoon. In spite of the inclemency of the weather there was a very good attendance of members and friends. The was specially arranged for the observance of Maori Day. During the afternoon an account of the extension and progress of temperance work among the Maoris was given. A resume ot the annual report of the Dominion Superin tend ant of Maori work showed that an increased interest was being taken in that Department, as was shown by the practical help rendered by local unions to Maoris in nearby settlements. Appreciation was also expressed of the co-operation of Mission Sisters and the Ministers.
Musical and elocutionary items were given by Mesdames Dyson, Spiers and Campbell. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Murray her hospitality. *
