COLOURED LIGHTS.

CHARGE OF POWER BOARD TOO HIGH. COOT OF ERECTION AND DISMANTLING. The Wairarapa Electric Power Board has forwarded to the Mssterton Borough Council an estimate of 10s. per string for erecting and dismantling the coloured electric lights. At last night’s meeting of the council it was decided that the board be written to, asking if it Is possible to have the charge reduced to a more reasonable basis. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) said that it would cost £25 10s every time the lights were put up and taken down, which really meant a prohibition against using them. The charge, said Councillor A. D. Low, was exorbitant. He went on to refer to the fact that the lights were not used on recent occasions when they j might have been and asked who was re- ' sponsible to decide on the matter. The Mayor said that he thought an application would have come to hand from the parties interested. It was suggested that the Exhibition Committee might co-operate in the • matter and that the bodies desiring the use of the lights should make application for them.
