MOCK COURT.

ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS’ SOCIETY. Members of the Masterton Accountant Students’ Society broke away from formal routine last evening by holding a Mock Court in the Courthouse, lent for the occasion by the Justice Department. There was a large attendance, including a number of ladies. In the proceedings of the evening, ”His Honour” Mr. C. C. Marsack, was the presiding judge, with Mr. N. Miller as prosecuting counsel and Mr. I. Hart as counsel for the defence. The “pris oner” was a Mr. Bundlepung, who bore a certain resemblance to Mr. A. O. Jones. A jury was empanelled in all due form, and Mr. A. D. Low was elected foreman. The prisoner was accused of obtaining a wool press valued at £22 10s. without disclosing that he wa« an undischarged bankrupt. He was defended with skill and ingenuity by his counsel, but the evidence against him was over whelmipg. The jury, overlooking the little difficulty that one of their number was stone and had not heard a word of the evidence, brought in a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy. The accused was discharged on probation for twelve months and was warned not to be seen in the neighbourhood of billiard saloons. Although there was e fair amount of pleasant fooling during the evening, the trial served to illustrate court procedure and to bring out some features of the Bankruptcy Act. On the motion of Mr. C. M. Bowden, a vote of thanks wy passed to Mr. Marsack r.nd his assistants and another to the Justice Department for the use of the building.
