PROPOSALS TO EGYPT.
BRITISH POLITICAL CIRCLES WAITING ON EVENTS. THE DOMINIONS CONSULTED. SAFEGUARDING THE CANAL. United Preu Association.—By Elee trit Telegraph.— Copyright. LONDON, August 7. Before venturing an opinion regarding the Egyptian Treaty, political circles in London are disposed • to wait and see how Mahmud Pasha fares before Parliament two months hence and whether the Wafd Party has sufficient sense to ' resist the itch to demand more. On this point it is felt tha Mr. Henderson’s statement that the treaty is the extreme limit will be a useful deterrent. There is also a desire to sec how India, Australia, and New Zealand regard the safeguards, although official circles emphasise that the Dominion* were kept closely informed before the draft was initialled. The inference is drawn that the Government feels that it has the backing of the Dominions in view of the 6uez Canal being adequately safeguarded.—(Australian Press Association.) NEW HIGH COMMISSIONER. SIR PERCY LORAINE APPOINTED. RUGBY, August 7. The King has approved the appointment of Sir Percy Loraine, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Athens, to be High Commissioner for Egypt and the Sudan.— (British Official Wirelees.)
