A party of about thirty children attending the Masterton West School leave this afternoon on a visit to the Hutt Central School. To-morrow they will try conclusions with the Hutt School at Rugby and basketball. The party, which will be in charge of Mr. W. Hickson, headmaster, will return to Masterton on Saturday evening. Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. last evening, the General Secretary (Mr. A. E. Bate) said that in the junior department over 30 boys were engaged on programme work and that good results were being obtained. Most of the boys were in two clubs, which were conducted by the boys themselves. New boys before being admitted to the clubs were required to gain the Red Triangle Badge, after which they passed through an initiation ceremony. 'The programme work was in four sections, requiring each a month’s work. After passing successfully through the first section, a boy was presented with a Red Triangle Badge, the second section carried the four t square badge, the third section, the all-round badge and the final section the leader’s badge. Arrangements were in hand to take 15 to 20 boys to Hastings and Napier during the school holidays, when it was proposed, to play the boys of those associations at indoor and outdoor games.
