STRIKE DISORDER.

FIVE KILLED IN STREET RIOT IN INDIA. DELHI, August 7. It is estimated that 150,000 jute mill workers, about 45 per cent, of the total, are now out on ©trike. So far the mills at Howrah, on the western bank of the Hooghly, are not affected, with one exception. Last evening the first clash arose from rumours that certain Pathan money-lenders and gatekeepers were about to call in loans to mill hands, fearing a pro-longed stoppage. Hearing that one of their number had been stabbed, the mill hands attacked, and a serious situation developed. Five strikers were killed and twenty-eight injured, mainly with dagger wounds. Reinforcements of sixty armed and twenty-six ordinary police were rushed to the scene. —(Australian Press Association —United Service.)
