A Christchurch message announces the death of Mr. William Jarno* Bowles, aged 60, proprietor of a big drapery establishment. He was inspecting a car in a motor garage on Wednesday when he stepped back into a pit, receiving nevere an juries, and did not regain consciousness. He kaves a wife and two son*. The marriage took place at All Saints’ Church. Haitaitai, WeHingum, on July 2, of Paul, second son of the late Mr. Gustave Kummer and Mrs. Kummer, of “ Kumm e ratein,” Masterton, to Victoria Frances, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Holm wood, of Tasmania, and widow of the late Mr. D. R Lucas, of Hobart, Tasmania. At the annual conference e£ the New Zealand Veterinary Surgeon’s A-ssoeiation in Wellington on Wednesday, the following officers were elected:—President, Dr. C. J. Reales; vicepresident, Mr A. M. Brodie (Haetanga); executive council, Messrs. J. Lyons, H. 8. 8. Kyle, M.P., and J. Kerrigan; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. J. M. Hopkirk. The following clergymen and laymen were on Wednesday appointed anof the Bishop's Court for the ensuing tnrae veers by the Wellington Diocesan Synod:—Ven. Archdeacon Haneeil, Ven. Archdeacon Innes Jonea, Rev. Canon Petrie, Rev. Oamon syUi, Rev. Ctaon Watson, Bev. W. BuUoek, Messrs J. L. Barnieoat, G. G. Bridges, J. W. Henderson, H. A. Huggins, W. H. Maclean, and G. Hhirtehffe. A gathering in honour of the Rev. Father J. Kelly, parish priest of Newtown, on the occasion of the silver jubilee of his ordination, waa held in St. Anne’a Hall, Newtown, on Wednesday night. Members of the clergy were present from many ptaoen, including the Wairarapa. Many prnaen tatiom were made. The Very Bev. Dean McManus eaid Father Kelly’s flrst mission in New Zealand was with the Bt. Bev. Monsignor McKenna in Masterton, blazing a trail in the FortyMile Bush.
The death occurred on Wednesday at Pahiatua of Mr Charles James Robinson, a well-known resident of the town. The Into Mr. Robinson was bora in Staffordshire (England) and camo to New Zealand with his parents at the age of six years, and had resided continuously in the Dominion for 70 years. He spent most of hi« early days at the Upper Hntt, and subsequently tngaged in farming at Carterton, and afterwards at Nireaha. Prior to going to Carterton he carried out tunnelling contracts on the Rimutaka raidway line, being there when the flrot engiaa was put on the line. He leaves a widow and one sou, Mr. Walter <X Robinson.
