Mr A. D. McKinley B.A. has resigned his position on the staff of the Wairarapa High School cn account of ill-health ami will take up residence in Wellington in a few days. The Hon. A. D. McLeod and Mra McLeod, who are to l<J|ve shortly on a visit to Europe, are to be tendered a public farewell in the Martinborough Town Hall on Tueedav, March 26. Mr F. 8. Pope, Assistant-Director General of Agriculture, will retire from the Public Service at the end of this month after an active career extending over forty-three yeans. Mr Pope was born in Dunedin in 1869, a son of the late Mr J. H. Pope, Inspector of Native Schools. He was educated al the Otago Boys’ High School, partly at Baiiarat, land latterly at Wellington College. There was a large and representative gathering at the Te Ore Ore School on [Friday night when the settlers of the district met to entertain Mr and Mrs G. Shan’, who will leave shortly on a [visit to England, at a social gathering. During the evening dancing was indulged in. and a number of mum items were given. Extras for the dancing were played by Mrs Walter Cameron, Messrs W. Chunn and D. Falloon. Musical items were given, by Mimb N. Ingley (song) and Miss de 15.1 e (recitation). Mr T. Ingley, on behalf of 'the settlers, prjscr.ted Mrs Shaw with ;a travelling rug and Mr Rhaw with a walking stick, paying a high tribute to Itheir hospitality. Mr J. James (Wan-'ga-ehu) then presented Mias Shaw with a travelling cushion and Miss Brown with a fruit knife and fork. The recipients of the presentations wore warmly cheered.
