The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—General situation: An intense anti-cyclone is centred near Adelaide, though the pressure is still rather high over New Zealand, a wiavo of relatively low pressure has just passed to the eastward and another is advancing over the southern Tasman. Forecast: Winds between west and south-west amd later, backing to southerly generally and increasing to gale force in places.. Seas smooth to moderate generally, but rising later. Weather cloudy in western and southern districts of the South Lsand and parte> of Taranaki with some scattered .showers, but mainly fair to fine at first, later cloudy weather extending to- the East Const, with showers or misty rain in places; temperatures becoming colder.
