THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1929. THE EXHIBITION

A definite beginning upon the work) of organising’ th© Wairarapa Industrial.; and Art Exhibition should be possible | very shortly. At a meeting on Mon-|-day evening next, the -general commit-1 tee is to appoint an organising secret-; ary. A definite decision has already i been reached on the important ques-; tion of the date of opening. In ordernot to clash with the Competitions i Festival, the Industrial Exhibition is not to open till May 27, although theArt Section will open a week earlier < and run for a fortnight. It should be ‘ possible to organise the Exhibition bn' a very complete scale in the period of: a clear two months that remains available, but the whole of this time prob- ■ ably can- be occupied very profitably. f Th© whole success of the Exhibition of, course- must depend primarily upon! the estent to which it is supported by possible exhibitors. People engaged in. different industries in the Wairamapal will be very unwise indeed if they al-; low any of the space that is offering to go begging. No doubt they are weld able to see for themselves- that in- thei extent to which space at the Exhibition is occupied by outside exhibitors, the effect will be rather to intensify outside competition than to foster district industries and trade. The wise policy is to make the utmost use of the Exhibition as a means of showing what the industries of the Wairarapa can do to meet district needs. In virtually every case, those who had displays at the 1927 Exhibition declared themselves more than satisfied with the results. Th© task of disposing of the space available this year should -on that account be comparatively easy the more so since several district industries are of a kind that can only make really good displays in the months of cold weather.
