THE BUDE MURDER.
WILLIAM MAYNARD SENTENCED TO DEATH LONDON, June 5. William Maynard was sentenced to death for the murder of Richard Roadley, at Bude last February. His evidence consisted of an attack on the police, alleging that a statement was obtained from him by means of threats.—(Australian Press Association). Lost February Richard Roadley, aged 84, a wealthy recluse, was found battered to death in his home. Later, Maynard, a rabbit trapper, was charged with tho murder. At the preliminary hearing Maynard, who is a married man, was carried into Court doubled up on a mattress and covered with a rug. He writhed and groaned as though in agony. Later ho walked steadily.).
