FARMERS FAVOUR FLAT TAX (The “Age” Special—By Telegraph). PALMERSTON N., May 31. The Tinui branch moved at the Inter-Provincial Farmers’ Union Conference at Feilding wto-day, that a purely nominal flat taxation for registration purposes be imposed on all cars and lorries and that with the exception of heavy traffic fees the neees sary revenue for roads and highways be collected by means of the petrol tax.

It. was understood said Mr H. Bennett that when the petrol tax was introduced other motor taxes would be done away with, but that has not occurred. He also urged that with all forms of taxation for reading purposes some relief should be given to county ratepayers. Highwiys in New Zealand were twenty years ahead of requirements and in view of the alarming increase in taxation it was time the'producers took a stand. Mr. Franklyn seconded the-'remit, stating that motorists favoured a flat tax. Conference approved of the remit.
