PERSONAL.

Petty Officer H. S. Green, of H.M.S. Laburnum, is visiting friends in Masterton.

Mr F. V. Kempton, of Greytown, is visiting Hamner, for the benefit of his health.

Mr W. Knell, of Picton, has been appointed manager of the Wairarapa Permanent Investment Loan Association, of Greytown, in succession to the late Mr W. H. Diddams. Mr Knell will take up his duties next month. Mr Harry Arnold died in Masterton Hospital on Thursday, at the age of 80 years. The deceased had lived in the Masterton district for a long period, haying been employed as gardener at Fernyhurst for some years. He leaves relatives at Foxton.

Mr Samuel Haigh, of Greytown, celebrated his 83rd birthday yesterday. Mr Haigh was born on April 22, 1844, two years after his parents landed in New Zealand. He still enjoys excellent health, despite his advanced years, so , much. so that he played bowls during the Easter holidays. He defeated his son George, of Newtown Club, on Good Friday, but lost on Saturday, and then played two games on Monday. Mr and Mrs Haigh have ten sons and four daughters, all of whom except one son, are living. The living descendants are 13 children, 42 grand-children, and seven great-grand-children. At the annual meeting of shooting and fishing license-holders of the South Wairarapa, held in Greytown on Thursday evening, the following committee was elected for the ensuing year: Greytown, Messrs W. A. Tate, W. H. Jordan, C. G. Bouzaid; Featherston, Messrs R. F. Watson, A. McLeod, W. Benton; Martinborough, Messrs W McKay, W. J. McLeod, E. Cameron*, Carterton, Messrs R. Smith, T. H. Hughes, Rev Father Hagarty. The Rev Father Hagarty was re-elected chairman, Mr T. H. Hughes secretary, and Mr W. A. Tate auditor. Mr Tate was also elected delegate to the parent body.
