DRAUGHTS CHAMPIONSHIP.
A NOTABLE VICTORY. POSITION OF THE PLAYERS. WELLINGTON, April 21. The three last rounds of the Dominion draught championship were contested to-day. A notable victory was that of J. Gardiner over G. A. Brown. It is the first time that the latter has been defeated in his previous 109 tourney games, he having gone through the championship meetings at Dunedin (1926) and New Plymouth (1925) without a loss, and he lost only one game at the Gore congress (1924). Brown had his revenge in a return game, beating Gardiner, his first loss for many years. Results:—Gardiner (Nelson) 23 for, against 4; G. A.
