RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

LIMERICK WINS ST. LEGEB. BATTLEMENT IN SECOND PLACE SYDNEY, April 19. At the opening day of the Australian .Toekey Club’s meeting, Limerick won the A.J.C. St. Leger, of 2500 sovs, with Battlement, another New Zeaander, in second place. Count Cavour was unplaced in the Autumn Stakes, 1) miles, at weight for age, which was won by Pantheon. Commenting on the St. Leger, the “Sydney Morning Herald” says: “The St. Leger was a triumph for the New Zealand trainer, F. D. Jones, who gained first and second place with Limerick and Battlement. The race was generally regarded a% a certainty for Limeriek. He won easily. His performance was vastly pleasing to his Sydney Cup admirers.”' The “Telegraph” says: “So easily did Limerick win that the time of the race may be ignored. The gelding did everything that could be expected of him.”—(P.A)
