HAVOC OF THE STORM

SYDNEY’S VISITATION. .SIX MEN KILLED. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. (Received Tuesday, 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 19. During the height of the storm last, night telegraph and electric wires were blown down in all directions.. Large portions of the city and suburbs were plunged in darkness and trams stopped. Subsequently, the bodies of two men, one at Newtown, and the other at Drummoyne, were found electrocuted through coming into contact with live wires. A man was killed at Granville by falling wreckage, and another at Balmain. A third was found dead in a pool of water in a street at Parramatta and a fourth was run down and killed by a train near Campsio. , Everywhere, amid the continued storm of rain to-day, there were signs ox its ravages and the cyclonic fury with which it raged for a good part of the night. Buildings were unroofed and otherwise damaged, while a good deal of stock was destroyed through rain penetrating shops. Trees and fences were blown down.

The showgrounds present a wrecked appearance. Kiosks and tents were blown down and advertising boards and hoardings were scattered in . all directions. Some permanent builings and exhibits were damaged. All ring events are abandoned till the weather moderates and the ground, which is now swamp, dries. Owing to the dislocation of telegraph lines, news from the country districts is not available, but the last reports received indicate that the storm was widespread. Rivers are rising and floods are feared. Altogether it has been one of the most disastrous Easters in Sydney’s experience.—(P.A.)
