SECRET DIVORCE.

GROWING IN ENGLAND.

ABSENCE OF PUBLICITY DEPRECATED. , INCREASE OF CASES. (Received Sunday 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 5. That England is in danger of becoming the home of secret divorce as the result of enforced newspaper secrecy is stressed by the rapid increase of cases. At the beginning of last year’s session the cases numbered 452. At the beginning of the 1927 session they numbered 488, while since it has been found necessary to issue a supplementary list of 282 undefended cases which were notified during the last two months. Furthermore undefended cases arc now tried, at the various assizes throughout the country, of which the figures at present are not available, though it is known there is a big increase. The “Law Times” fears that the absence of publicity will mean the divorce court will be more and more resorted to.—(A. and N.Z.)
