Miss Ellen Wilkinson, Labour M.P., deprecates any attempt to convert a girl’s natural desire for admiration and success into a commercial' and profitmaKing concern.

Miss Evelyn Laye, the actress, says that such contests are dangerous. Actresses are born and not made, and beauty is valuable, but useless without brains.

Several others deprecate commercial beauty competitions, adding that the girls whe win think their future is assured, but they are only doomed to disappoiatmont.— (A; and N.Z.) (A cablegram received from London on October 14 stated that Doreen Vise had been selected with five others for the final judging in connection with the international beauty contest.
