A BRIGHTER TONE. CHRISTCHURCH, October 6. Entries at Addington market to-day were smaller in the major sections of stock. Fat cattle represented an nndcrsupply for butchers’ needs and there «vas a jump of about 40/- per head in value for good beef and to 35/- for medium quality. Fat sheep also sold better as did store hoggets. Spring lambs and fat pigs were cheaper. Store Sheep: Ewe hoggets sold better than last week by 2/- to 2/6 a head, and ewes and lambs were also in brisker demand. The rain over the week-end was the cause of the brighter tone. Good three-quarter-bred ewe hoggets, 32/9 to 35/-; extra good threequarter bred hoggets, 38/1; three-quar-ter-bred wether hoggets, 22/- to 24/4; half-bred wether hoggets, 22/- to 25/6; s.m. three-quarter-bred ewes with lambs 16/6, all counted; good aged half-bred ewes with lambs, 16/- to 16/1; aged three-quarter-bred ewes with lambs, 12/- to .15/-; 2 and 4-th three-quarter-bred wethers, 23/- to 26/-; 4,6, Bth half-bred wethers, 25/9. Spring Lambs: An over supply, 290 being entered. Prices ranged from 21/to 31/6, or about 9d to lOd per lb. The, bulk of the entry being well-grown and prime.
Fat Sheep: An entry of nine races, about 25 per cent, less than usual. I Most of it was very prime. Good wethers and ewes advanced on last week by 1/6 to 2/- per head, and medium by up to 1/6. Two freezing companies were operating. Extra heavy wethers to 45/-; prime wethers, 35/6 to 38/6; medium wethers, 32/- te 35/-; light , wethers, 28/6 to 31/6; extra primeewes to 37/1; prime ewes, 29/- to 33/-; medium ewes, 25/6 to 28/6; light ewes. 22/- to 25/-; prime hoggets, 28/- to 31/-; medium hoggets, 24/- to 27/6; prime shorn wethers, 27/- to 30/-; medium shorn wethers, 24/- to 26/6. Fat Cattle: A small entry and keen sale, good heifers and cows’ beef and medium steers selling at a big advance on last week. An occasional pen ar two of heifers made to near 50/- per 1001 b.; good steer and heifer beef, 39/to 44/-; heavy beef, 36/- to 38/-; good cow, 36/- to 39/-; medium beef, 33/to 35/-; inferior, 30/-. Extra heavy bullocks to £2O 7/6; prime heavy steers £l7 to £l9; prime medium-weignt steeis £l5 10/- to £l7 10/-; medium quality steers, £l2 10/- to £l5; light steers, £lO to £l2; extra prime heifers to 316 17/6; prime heifers, £l2 10/- to £l4 10/-; ordinary heifers, £9 10/- to £l2; light heifers, £6 10/- to £9; extra prime cows to £l5 2/6; prime eows, £ll 5/- to £l3 10/-; ordinary eows, £8 to £11; light cows, £5 10/- to £7 10/-.
Vealers: A small entry and one of poor quality, with a brisk sale. Medium runners to £7; calves, £4 to £6;. small oulves, 15/- to 30/-. Store Cattle: A pen of 4-year steers made £10; fresh cows to £5 2/6; others 30/- to £3 10/-. Dairy Cows: Good sorts were better than last week by £2 a head. Best second to fourth calvers, £7 10/- to £10; medium, £5 to £7; inferior, £2 10/to £4 10/-; springing heifers, £2 15/- to £5 15/-; aged cows, 15/- to £3. Pigs: A medium entry and easier sale. Choppers, £4 to £4 15/ ; light baeoners, £4 5/- to £4 15/-; heavy baconers, £5 to £6 2/- (average price per lb., Bid to 9d); porkers, 50/- to 74/- (average price per lb, 9d to ICd). Store Pigs: A good entry ami improved sale. Weaners, 22/- to 30/-; stores, 35/- to 46/-; largo stores, 57/to 64/>; sows in pig up to £7 10/-.— (P.A.)
