CHINA AND BRITAIN.

DEMANDS REPORTED. CONTROL OF BRITISH WARSHIPS PEKIN, October 4. In connection with the Wan-Hsien incident, the Chinese Government is reported to have demanded a reservation of the right to claim damages and the punishment of persons in the British Navy and a guarantee of the non-re-eurrence of similar incidents. It is also reported that the British Government failed to accept the demands of the Chinese Government that it should declare the cancellation of unequal treaties concluded between Britain and China, and orders have been issued to all provincial authorities to enforce a control of the navigation of British warships in Chinese waters.—(A. and N.Z.)
