The “Wairarapa Daily News” states that the engagement is announced of Miss Iris Parker, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Parker, of “Strathmore,” West Taratahi,’to Bertram Edward Clarke, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E. Clarke, of Carrington. . The marriage took place in All Saints’ Church, Hokitika, on Wednesday last, of Miss Ruth Fuller, a wellknown Greytown resident and PoliceConstable Charles King, son of Sergt. King, offiedr in charge of the Hokitika Police force. The Rev. Mr. Perkins officiated.
Mr H. Orman, for several years on the Masterton railway staff, leaves today on transfer to Hamilton. On Saturday afternoon, the captain (Mr E. J. Heffer), of the Masterton Harrier Club, of which Mr Orman was a prominent member, made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Orman as a token of esteem and a parting gift.
The funeral took place yesterday of Mrs B. Arnot, an old and respected resident of the Masterton district. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. W. Bullock. The pallbearers were: Messrs T. Jordan, H. H. Daniell, E. W. Payton, R. J. Barton, S. Smith and Boy Mace. The lengthy cortege and large number of floral tributes testified to the respect in which the deceased lady was held. A London cablegram reports that a large gathering of New Zealanders, including Sir James Parr and Sir Francis Bell, together with many personal friends and representatives of meat and dairy boards, shipping, financial, and banking companies, Commissioner D. C. Lamb, of the Salvation Army, Mrs A. Harding, representing the Dominions Office, and Colonel H. V. B. de Satge, representing Mr Leopold Amery (Secretary for the Dominions), farewelled Sir James Allen at Euston Station.
Mr William Ross, Inspector of Stock and Registrar of Brands for the Woodville district—which embraces the counties of Woodville, Dannevirke, Weber, Akitio and Pahiatua—retired on superannuation as from July 31, and receives three months’ leave of absence from that date. Mr Ross has just completed 37 years’ continuous Government service. He will reside for a time in Woodville. Mr J. S. Rankin, stock inspector of Levin, has been appointed to take Mr Ross’ place, and will be located in Dannevirke, as it has been decided to remove the head Inspector of Stock to that town. Assistant Inspector of Stock, Mr. R. W. Skinner, is being transferred from Pahiatua to Wood-ville,-and will work under Mr. Rankin
