ADDINGTON MARKET.
FAT SHEEP SLIGHTLY EASIER. PRIME STEERS FIRM. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 6.—Large entries were the rule at Addington today, it being the first market for a fortnight. Store sheep.—A small entry of wethers, which sold at 1/ per lb lower than last sale. 2-th J-bd wethers 23/ to 24/6, good 4 and 6-th 25/9 to 26/6, 4, 6 and 8-th 22/1 to 24/3, s.m. xbd ewes 26/ to 29/10, small Down cross lambs 18/7.
Fat lambs.—43oo penned, most of the entry being of prime quality. Owing to short staffs of butchers at the .freezing works export buying was Somewhat restricted and tho schedule of export rates for the week scarcely maintained, particularly for heavy weights. Several export firms were not operating. Extra prime lambs 32/6 to 34/10, V prime 29/3 to 32/, med. 27/3 to 29/, light 25/ to 27/. Fat sheep.—A heavy entry of wethers. At the commencement values were just a shade in advance of xexportere ’ prices, but the latter ‘ level was soon reached and there was a fair amount of export buying. Extra prime wethers to 35/1, prime 30/3 to 32/6, med. 27/3 to 30/, light 25/ to 27/, extra prime ewes to 29/7, prime 25/ to 2V, med. 22/ to 24/6, light 19/ to 21/9, inf. 17/ to 18/6.
Fat cattle.—s3o penned, mostly of good quality. Some very prime medium weights showed a shade of firming on last sale but big bullocks were easier by 20/ per head and heavy cows by 15/. Extra choice beef, in a few eases, made 40/ per 100 lbs, prime medium weight 39/ to 42/, prime heavy weight 34/ to 37/1, med. quality 31/ to 34/, light 27/6 to 30/6, and rough down to 22/6. Extra prime heavy weight steers £3B 10/ to £2O 7/6, prime £l6 to £18; prime medium weights £l4 10/6 to £l6 10/, medium £l2 5/ to £l4 5/, light £lO to £l2, rough £8 5/ to £9 15/, extra prime to prime heifers £lO to £l2, ord. £7 to £9 15/, light £5 to £6 10/, extra prime to prime cows £8 15/ to £lO 15/, ordinary £6 5/ to £8 10/, light £3 15/ to £6. Vealers.—Runners to £5 12/6, calves 15/ to 40/. Demand was poor. Store cattle.—A line of 2 and 3-yr steers sold at £7 15/, good cows made £4 5/.
Dairy cattle.—Good springers Sold well, 3rd and 4th calvers to £l4 15/, others £6 to £ll, good heifers to £l5 5/, medium to good £5 10/ to £lO, old sorts £2 to £4.
Fat pigs.—A large entry and a considerable drop in prices. Choppers £3 to £5 15/, baconers £3 12/ to £5 15/, av. per lb 6<l to 7d, porkers 44/ to 66/,, av. per lb 6}d to 7Jd. Store pigs.—Tho market was easier in sympathy with the drop in the fat pigs maAet. Weaners 19/ to 25/, slips 26/ to 28/, small stores 30/ to 34/, medium 35/ t<r 40/, large up to 50/.—(P.A.)
